Army Tank

This cake I made for an 8 year old boy for his birthday on Saturday. this cake was a challange as I have never seen let alone been in or near an Army tank! Good news though my husband was in the Air-force for 6 years so he was huge help to me for this cake.
I normally use my famous butter icing for my cakes ( as you all know) but this time I decided to try soft white icing icing that you but at the supermarket ( not the almond icing yuck!) I also tried powdered food colouring and wow this colour was really vibriant and really easy to work with. The hard part is kneeding the colour into the soft white icing.

I covered the cake in butter icing first as this acts as a sealer on the cake and it also gives the soft white icing something to stick to. Once I kneeded the colour into the icing I rolled it out to the size and height of the cake. Be careful is you use this as it rips very easy so i found out!!!

Once the icing was placed on the cake (very carefully) i pressed it down and cut the excess edges off. With the excess edges I rolled them into a thin sausage shape and placed it around the edge of the cake this worked really well and finished the cake well.

Decorating this cake was very easy as it didn't need much I did put sand around it (its butter icing and brown sugar!). This cake went down really well with the kids and the adults. I also got the seal of approval from my husband so it must have been good.

This cake took me about 2 hours to make and decorate a lot of fun was had with this cake.

Castle Cake

Hey guys I'm back with a new cake! This cake I made last year for two birthdays and they were for two gorgeous boys who turned 7 and 6. The boys were right into castles last year and they wanted the cake this colour. The first one was a mission. I had no idea what I was doing all I had was a picture ( this is the way that I do make them) but this one was extra difficult.

I started with a square cake and iced it with my famous butter icing. I then added the corner bits and this was hard. I had three atempts at this part and gave up as it would not work and i got very grumpy!!! .The top of the cake was made with ice cream cones!! They were placed on the corners and then covered with butter icing. This was very messy but lots of fun!!

Then all that was needed was the decorations, the children wanted pebbles!!! The best part of both of these cakes was the exciment that the children shared and ofcourse eating the cake. I do get a bit sad when the cake is cut there is alot of hard work that has gone into it but it tastes Sooooo Goooood!!!!

These are my pictures of the castles they are both the same. I will crop the photos in my computer and they will be eaiser to see!!!

Fire Engine Cake

This is the first cake I made that I took a photo of!! This cake was interesting to make. The 5 year old boy that I made it for loved fire engines at the time. The cake is a light sponge and is covered in red icing . The best part about this cake is the flashing lights. The lights are made from 2 lollipop flashing sticks (my son and partner at the time had the job of eating the lollipops!) These lights just made this cake and the kids loved it, the only thing that was missing was the siren noises!!! I cover my cakes in a rich but delicant butter icing that is my own recipe and it is a hit with the adults as well as children. I make the cakes with two layers which are sandwich together with butter icing. I love making cakes the very first one I made was a logging truck! The only thing about my cakes is my imagination takes over and each cake shows my bubbly side and my creative side!
